Big Cat Brother, BCB for short,  is a network of Smart devices meant to provide early alerts about dangerous ongoing situations as they develop; to accomplish that goal BCB uses a wide range of sensing techniques and Machine Learning on small devices. This is a shift in how technology is being used for species conservation purposes. Biologist are used to technology in their efforts to study or conserve wildlife, GPS trackers, Trap Cameras are good examples of that. The data provided by this tools are used mostly passively, they are good for analysis and species studies, however they cannot prevent the damage being done in real time. BCB behaves as a surveillance system and a data logger as well.

Big Cats, such as #Jaguars, are extremely important to ensure the health of the ecosystem. In their role of top predators they keep under control the number of other species that can be harmful for the environment. As top predators, they are also seen both as trophies and threads. Jaguar - Human conflicts, road accidents and poaching are putting Jaguars under direct threat of extinction, which is dramatic in many senses. The aim of BCB is to mitigate those causes of death that can make these beautiful animals disappear forever.

BCB is not a device, it is a network of cells of intelligent devices that interacts with each other to understand an ongoing situation, for instance, a Jaguar about to cross a road, a Jaguar near a farm or a suspected scene of poaching. Inhabitant engagement is also important to achieve the desired results and that is why two new devices are introduced, Smart Collars for domestic animals and smart fences complete the tools to produce confidence in local populations, these tools plus the Panic Buttons allow people to be part of the solution.

BCB devices use several sensing techniques, from image analysis to sound analysis to understand what is happening and where it is happening in order to early alert authorities and engaged civilians to avoid a fatal ending episode. We can all be part of the solution.
