What makes Jaguars unique?
Well, let me know when to stop. Besides their role in maintaining their ecosystem healthy, Jaguars are a cultural symbol across south/central America, so they are an important revenue stream for the tourism industry as well; since the Mayas to nowadays, they captured our attention. I will make it short and I will just say that their fur spots make each Jaguar unique, the spots patterns are like their fingerprints. Once feared and venerated as a god, they need our protection (from ourselves) and they have this ID as a legacy to make things easy for us. #ComputerVision loves unique patterns.

Where did the spots come from?
There was a time when animals didn't eat each other. Everyone was living a happy, abundant and pleasant life and there it was this wonderful Jaguar walking through the rain forest, proudly displaying his golden and perfect fur. He was proud of his own beauty. One day, monkeys (and this is quite an Irony because we "evolved" from them) decided that they had to teach a lesson to the Jaguar. They started to throw fruits to the Jaguar and by doing that they stained his fur with the spot we see today.
The Jaguar was furious and he ate one of the monkeys as retaliation. The monkeys, scared, went to the "lord of the land" and explained the situation, they managed to convince the lord that the Jaguar deserved the lesson and monkeys had the favor of the lord (early stages of politics it seems). The war was started; the lord gave monkeys long tails to hung on tall trees and an annoying sound to alert each other about the presence of a Jaguar. Other animals got weapons too, some of them were meant to harm the Jaguar.
In this particular vision of things, the Jaguar was forced to do his best to eat the animals without being detected nor harmed, so, step by step, he became the silent and almost invisible hunter we know today; and let me say, I think they are still proud of their own beauty.
