Jaguars as inspiration to people
Across history, Jaguars were seen as a symbol of power, other mystic believes were (and are) in place still today, their strength, they night habits, the spots on their fur were associated with many concepts, they were believe to visit the land of the dead and even their spot and specially the pigmentation issue present in the Black Jaguars or panthers were associated with eclipses, at that point that the Mayans believed that the world would end due to a huge eclipse caused by a Jaguar eating the sun! They were seen as both destruction and creation forces, many myths are written.
What it makes me happy is that Jaguars keep inspiring people today, even young people. I visited the Misiones Province in Argentina, a famous province for hosting one of the 7 natural marvels in the wold, the Iguazú Falls.
Argentina has three zones where Jaguars are still present, one of them is Misiones, part of the upper Paraná Atlantic forest, some good news are coming from the zone regarding a slight growth in the Jaguar population, if you want to know what is going on in that area, please visit this new section: what is going on.
I visited Misiones a couple of time, in fact, it was there where my Jaguar devotion started. Iguazú is a touristic place so it is quite common to see Jaguar merchandise all over the place, it doesn’t mean they care about them, it seems that those items are easy to sell, most of the sellers aren’t even aware that Jaguars are under threat of extinction!
In my last trip to Iguazú, I was walking down the touristic part of the city and suddenly I got petrified by a Jaguar painting, I never saw anything like that before, it was raw, however the look on the Jaguar eyes felt real. I kept going and I said to myself, go back! and I started to talk with the guy. he had some other nice paintings; however there was something special about this Jaguar, the look on the Jaguar eyes was unbelievable, so, I started to talk with this guy beyond the painting and I discovered not only that he was aware about the Jaguar crisis but that this young guy had a deep link with nature and its work reflected that to the perfection.
His name is Lucio, you can find some of his work in his instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/lus.indiga/), he has a huge respect for original inhabitants and the relationship with Earth. In fact, he uses natural elements from the zone only, such as coal, earth, water, fruit inks even paper from Misiones. He spreads his messages everywhere, even on the walls of the hostel he was staying in.
His message is strong and reflects a pure soul in synchrony with life, and given the fact this is about art, I would add, justice. This is one of the painting that impacted me the most, the title honors everything I said about him, this beauty is called:
“The Moon saved the innocence”.
